UWF honors the late John Markowitz with new scholarship endowment
On Oct. 16, the University of West Florida College of Arts, Social Sciences and Humanities honored the life and work of the late John Markowitz with a memorial reception that celebrated the newly named John Markowitz Memorial Painting Studio and announced a scholarship endowment in his name. Markowitz taught studio art and art history at UWF for 24 years up until his retirement in August 2024.

University of West Florida Interim President Manny Diaz Jr. celebrated record enrollment, top rankings, major research awards, student and faculty excellence, athletic success and continued military commitment during his 2025 State of the University address on Thursday, Oct. 16. Speaking to students, faculty, staff and community members, Diaz highlighted UWF’s growing momentum and reflected on the shared pursuit of arete — excellence in all things.

The University of West Florida Dr. Grier Williams School of Music will present the Kamerman Piano Series at UWF featuring guest performer Matthew Graybil. The performance will be held on Sunday, Oct. 26, at 3 p.m. in the Rolfs Music Hall at the Center for Fine and Performing Arts on the UWF Pensacola campus.
