Among China’s most experienced professional players, Xiao Guodong won his first ranking event title at the 2024 Wuhan Open.
Xiao defeated Haydon Pinhey, Andrew Pagett, Kyren Wilson, Barry Hawkins, Shaun Murphy, Long Zehuang and finally Si Jiahui for a breakthrough victory on home soil. A few weeks later, Xiao secured his place among the world’s top 16 for the first time in his career by beating Jackson Page 6-4 to reach the semi-finals of the International Championship.
In the next event, Xiao reached the final of the Champion of Champions for the first time in his career after defeating Ronnie O’Sullivan, Mark Selby and Mark Allen before losing out to Mark Williams in the title match.
A two-time PIOS event winner and former Asian Under-21 champion at amateur level, Xiao turned professional for a single season in 2007 before regaining his tour card two years later.
Xiao made steady progress up the world ranking list before his breakthrough came at the Shanghai Masters in 2013. There he won eight matches to contest the first all-Chinese ranking event final with Ding Junhui, who ultimately ran out a 10-6 winner.
He is also a two-time Shoot Out finalist in 2015 (invitational event) and 2017.
He has reached the televised stages of the World Championship on four occasions, reaching the last 16 stage in both 2017 and 2025.
