The municipality of �gua Santa (3,748 inhabitants; 29,180 ha) is located 300 km north-east of Porto Alegre.

�gua Santa was established in the 1920s by Italian colonists coming from Antonio Prado, Veran�polis, Garibaldi and other neighboring towns. They named the place for the miraculous, "saint water" ("�gua santa") gushing forth in a cave located 2 km from the downtown. Dedicated to Our Lady of Lourdes, the cave is the site of a yearly farmers' pilgrimage unique in Brazil.

Symbols

The flag of �gua Santa is prescribed by Municipal Law No. 45 promulgated on 18 September 1989.
Blue represents the municipality, red represents Rio Grande do Sul, and yellow represents Brazil. In the center is placed a coat of arms basically composed of five symbols: a dove, two flags on the sides, water, soybean and mate herb, and a blue scroll inscribed with the municipality's name and date of establishment. Blue represents water, green and yellow represents Rio Grande do Sul, yellow represents the municipal resources, green represents agriculture, and gray represents basaltic stone.
