Municipality

The municipality of Santo Ant�nio de Palma (2,139 inhabitants in 2010; 12,610 ha) is located 250 km north of Porto Alegre.

Santo Ant�nio de Palma was established at some date between the late 19th and the early 20th century by Italian and Polish colonists coming from Veran�polis, Nova Prata, Ant�nio Prado, Mu�um and Guapor�.
The Palma family established an inn to cater tropeiros and their cattle, as well as merchant heading from Mu�um and Guapor� to Campo de Meio and Passo Fundo. The Palma family was so influential that the place was known as Vila Palma.
Santo Ant�nio was elevated to the 4th district of Casca by Municipal Law No; 190 promulgated on 12 December 1962. The municipality of Santo Ant�nio de Palma was established by State Law No. 9,591 promulgated on 20 March 1992, and inaugurated on 1 January 1993.
