The village of Middleburgh has adopted a village flag as part of a flag contest.

It was announced on the city's website, seen here: https://www.villageofmiddleburgh.com

The Village Board of Trustees announced the results of the Village Flag Design Contest at Monday nights meeting, as voting on the Peoples Choice component of the project concluded the weekend before.

With 149 votes received, Ava Shinavers flag design submission received 51% of the publics support. In second place was Hunter Nelsons design with 18.1%, followed by Rivo Strakoshs design receiving 15.4%, and Zoe Hendricksons submission garnering 6.7% of votes. Additionally, 8.7% of participants in the poll chose None of the Above.

I am very happy with how this project turned out, commented Village of Middleburgh Mayor Timothy Knight. He continued, Ava did a beautiful job with her excellent flag design, and I cannot wait to fly it in the Village of Middleburgh on Heritage Day.

As the winner of the Peoples Choice, Ava will be receiving $50 and a flag with her design will be ordered and flown as part of the Villages Heritage Day festivities on Friday, August 23. All funds for this contest are donated by members of the Village Board of Trustees.

We are truly blessed that Ava, Hunter, Rivo, and Zoe answered the Villages call by participating in this project, and they all did a wonderful job, the mayor commented. He concluded, Special recognition is owed to Middleburgh Central School Teachers Katelynne Schuttig and Jason Dannible, who played a big role in this projects success and encouraged their students participation.

Here is a description of the flag sent via an email from Mayor Knight.

The Shire horse represents the villages agricultural strength and ability to pull its weight. The 16 stars represent the towns of Schoharie County, of which 7 green stars are for those that are agriculturally strong and the largest star represents the town of Middleburgh, in which the village of Middleburgh lies. The mountain is Vromans Nose, a geographic landmark, and the river is Schoharie Creek, another well-known natural marking. The 3 bars are in different colors: white is a color of the Middleburgh Central School District and represents the peaceful community; blue represents resilience and the year 1712, when Middleburgh was settled by Palatine Germans; and green, another school district color, represents agricultural knowledge and skills.
