TV and radio
Our national TV programming is available on a variety of channels and services including BBC ONE Wales & BBC Wales HD, BBC TWO Wales, BBC iPlayer and S4C. We also offer two national radio stations, BBC Radio Wales in English and BBC Radio Cymru in Welsh.
Our network radio portfolio includes regular favourites such as The Choir and Composer of the Week for Radio 3 and many drama productions for Radio 4.
On TV, together with the independent sector in Wales we produce programmes for the BBC's digital channels Three, Four and CBBC, and our network dramas such as Doctor Who and Casualty attract millions of viewers worldwide.
On S4C
We have an unique relationship with S4C, contributing around 540 hours of BBC Wales programmes a year to S4C's overall schedule, all funded from the licence fee. The BBC and S4C renewed a Strategic Partnership Agreement in November 2012 through which the BBC's supply of programmes to S4C is governed.
The BBC Trust also sets out a remit for the BBC's Welsh language television output. Both of these ensure that the BBC's programmes on S4C contribute directly to S4C's programme strategy and deliver the public purposes required of the BBC in its charter and Agreement.
Online
BBC Wales online services reach over three million unique browsers a week, with content delivered to computers, connected TVs, mobile phones and tablet devices.
The service covers the Wales and Cymru editions of BBC Online with content from News and Sport, along with the iPlayer, Homepage and Bitesize guides, Weather, Travel, Radio & Music, CBBC and CBeebies.
Social media on platforms such as Twitter and Facebook is becoming increasingly important.
Cymru Fyw also provides a unique insight into Wales from a Welsh language perspective.
In addition to local output, BBC Wales also produces digital content for network productions from Doctor Who and Sherlock to Crimewatch and Wizards vs Aliens.
BBC National Orchestra and Chorus of Wales
The BBC National Orchestra and Chorus of Wales (BBC NOW) has been at the heart of Welsh music for over 90 years. As Wales' only professional symphony orchestra, it performs live concerts and broadcasts with top conductors and soloists, including Principal Conductor Ryan Bancroft. Proudly celebrating Welsh culture, BBC NOW showcases local music and talent, often performing in Welsh. It also brings music to schools, hospitals, and communities across Wales, inspiring future musicians through workshops and outreach. Regulars at the BBC Proms and BBC Cardiff Singer of the World, their performances are broadcast on BBC Radio 3, Radio Wales, and Radio Cymru. Alongside concerts and events, BBC NOW also records music for hit TV shows including Doctor Who, Planet Earth III, Prehistoric Planet, The Pact and Children in Need. At their home base, BBC Hoddinott Hall in Cardiff Bay, BBC NOW utilises a state-of-the-art recording studio with a camera system for livestreams and TV broadcasts to bring BBC NOW’s music to a broader audience across Wales and the world!
