About the Collection

Critical Care is calling for submissions to our Collection on "Advances in Mechanical Ventilation", which aims to highlight innovative approaches shaping the future of respiratory support in critical care. This collection will focus on original research and reviews articles that explore evolving lung-protective strategies, precision monitoring tools, and novel paradigms in mechanical ventilation. Topics of interest include (but are not limited to):

•    Lung-protective ventilation in ARDS and beyond.
•    Mechanical power, driving pressure, and ventilator-induced lung injury (VILI).
•    Advanced monitoring of patient–ventilator interaction.
•    Personalization of ventilatory support using physiologic or computational tools.
•    Non-invasive ventilation and high-flow systems in acute care.
•    Ventilation strategies in special populations (e.g., obesity, pregnancy, neuromuscular disease, advanced interstitial lung disease).
•    Integration of AI, machine learning, or closed-loop systems in mechanical ventilation.

We welcome original research, state-of-the-art reviews, clinical trials, and translational studies that contribute to the refinement and personalization of mechanical ventilation.

There are currently no articles in this collection.

Submission Guidelines

This Collection welcomes submission of research, state-of-the-art reviews, clinical trials, and translational studies that contribute to the refinement and personalization of mechanical ventilation. Should you wish to submit a different article type, please read our submission guidelines to confirm that type is accepted by the journal.

Articles for this Collection should be submitted via our submission system, Snapp. Please, select the appropriate Collection title “Advances in Mechanical Ventilation” under the “Details” tab during the submission stage.

Articles will undergo the journal’s standard peer-review process and are subject to all the journal’s standard policies. Articles will be added to the Collection as they are published.

The Editors have no competing interests with the submissions which they handle through the peer-review process. The peer-review of any submissions for which the Editors have competing interests is handled by another Editorial Board Member who has no competing interests.
