EvoDevo is calling for submissions to our Collection on EvoDevo is pleased to announce a new collection titled “Paleo-Evo-Devo: A Dialogue Between the Past and Present”, highlighting cutting-edge research at the intersection of paleontology and evolutionary developmental biology.
This collection focuses on how fossil evidence—our only direct window into extinct organisms—can be combined with modern developmental and molecular techniques to address longstanding questions in evolutionary biology. The field of Paleo-Evo-Devo brings together comparative anatomy, developmental genetics, phylogenetics, and paleontological data to reconstruct the developmental trajectories and morphological innovations that have shaped life on Earth.
We welcome submissions that explore the evolutionary and developmental origins of key morphological traits, the mechanisms underlying trait loss and repatterning, and the integration of fossil and extant data to better understand organismal diversity. Contributions may include original research, reviews, or methodological advances. Topics of interest include (but are not limited to):
• Model organisms in Paleo-Evo-Devo
• New techniques, including imaging, 3D modeling, and computational analysis
• Evolution and morphogenesis of key anatomical features
• Comparative ontogeny in extinct and extant taxa
• Developmental mechanisms behind vestigial structures
• Phylogenetic analysis of developmental transitions
• Ontogenetic repatterning and its contribution to allometric growth
• Integrating fossil and neontological data to understand modern biodiversity
By fostering dialogue between the fossil record and developmental biology, this collection aims to showcase how deep-time perspectives can transform our understanding of evolution and development.
