People Are Sharing What They Started To Dislike As They Got Older, And I Honestly Agree With A Lot Of These

From late nights to loud crowds, these are the things that lose their appeal over time.

It happens to all of us (and if it hasn't yet, it will). As we get older, our tastes, enthusiasm levels, and patience start to shift. Things that once felt exciting or harmless can suddenly feel annoying, exhausting, or just not worth the effort. Maybe it's going to large parties, or pretentious restaurants with long waits, or always upgrading to the newest and latest phone. Sometimes it's habits or pastimes we once thought we'd always enjoy.

Recently, redditor redxchrry- wanted to hear about the those things people stopped enjoying over time when they asked: "What are you starting to dislike as you get older?"

Person in an office suit with an uncertain expression, text reads "Nope. Don't like that."

The thread got over 2.4K replies. Here are a few of the top and most often repeated things people say they've started to dislike more and more with age:

    1. "Crowds."

A busy crosswalk in a city with blurred pedestrians and taxis moving quickly, capturing the dynamic and bustling urban atmosphere

    2. "Going out. Everything is expensive, and I can never hear anyone."

A glass of iced beverage is placed on top of a five-dollar bill, with a ten-dollar bill below it, resting on a wooden surface

    3. "Loud bars/restaurants."

Person in sparkly attire with a pained expression, hand on forehead, surrounded by blurred partygoers and festive lights

    4. "Planned obsolescence. Things used to be made to last. It was not only a selling point, but a point of pride. When something is designed to fail after three years, you’re not really buying it; you’re just renting it under the illusion that it’s a purchase."

A woman watches a repair technician in overalls fixing a refrigerator in a kitchen. A red toolbox is on the floor nearby

    5. "I’ve noticed I have way less patience for pointless drama. The older I get, the more I value calm, quiet, and people who don’t turn everything into a big deal. It’s funny — I thought getting older meant slowing down physically, but it’s really more about what kind of energy you want around you."

Person with earbuds expresses frustration, gesturing with hand. Caption reads: "Patience gone, patience forget about it."

    6. "Unnecessary fragrance in every single product."

Person in a bathrobe sneezing, holding a pump bottle, possibly reacting to a fragrance or product

    7. "Dedicated mobile apps for everything. It gets annoying having to download an app and create an account to do almost anything without being financially punished for it. I'm just old enough to remember when businesses didn't do this. There was a price, and you paid it without any extra steps. No need to give up all of your data to pay the market price for a latte or bag of groceries. For example, I went to a Starbucks a couple of weeks ago, and the cashier was genuinely surprised and a little confused by being handed a debit card."

Person scans barcode on phone at checkout counter, holding grocery bag. Cashier uses handheld scanner

    8. "Temperatures above 72°F."

Person in elegant, black velvet dress with jeweled headpiece gestures while speaking. Subtitles read: "a sensible 74."

    9. "Our stupid fucking phones. I hate my phone. I hate everyone on their phones. Phones at concerts. F smart phones."

Group of diverse friends sitting at an outdoor picnic table, engaged with their smartphones, enjoying a casual and relaxed gathering

    10. "A few years ago, I finally realized I have no interest in all the flavor variations in foods (soda, chips, candy). There were a few really good ones (BBQ Paydays, surprisingly). But most of them are just gross (Orange Coke)."

A person pushes a shopping cart down a grocery store aisle, stocked with various packaged snacks on both sides

    11. "Hopping into someone’s vehicle, and there is instantly loud music playing when they start it. I still love loud music, but not when it comes at me so abruptly like that."

Hand adjusting car radio volume knob with volume level displayed on the screen

    12. "Everything going digital."

    13. "Staying out after 10 p.m."

Two people peacefully sleeping in bed, one wearing a smartwatch. The serene setting conveys relaxation and comfort

    14. "Fucking restaurants using QR codes for menus."

Person using a smartphone to scan a QR code on a menu sign at a café table with a water bottle and menu sheet

    15. "Roller coasters. You can really feel every bump and twist when you start to age. Still love the idea of them, but it’s just too throwy-aroundy for me now."

Two people excitedly ride a wooden roller coaster, laughing with arms raised, while another person smiles behind them

    16. "Young people, more and more. I strongly dislike people aged 15–25. Maybe 1 in 100 are redeemable, but the rest are abhorrent."

A group of joyful friends chats and laughs on an escalator in a modern setting, with floral decorations visible on the side

    17. "New music. I still recognize good artists, but it all seems so recycled now and just another mass-marketed product."

Person smiling on the red carpet wearing a sleeveless outfit with a Union Jack design, accessorized with a necklace and bracelets

    18. "Social media. I grew up when Facebook was a big deal and remember hating spring break and holidays because all the rich and popular kids would be posting their trips to Cancun and stuff, and I'd always feel like I was missing out. Now I just don't care. I have zero interest in pretty much anyone's life outside my immediate family."

A smartphone screen shows various social media app icons like YouTube, WhatsApp, TikTok, Threads, X (formerly Twitter), Instagram, and Facebook

    19. And lastly, "Leaving the house for any reason at all."

Man relaxing on a sofa at home, casually dressed in a t-shirt and pants, with one leg crossed over the other and a thoughtful expression
