After 24 years behind bars, Palestinian prisoner Habes Bayyoud is set to be released as part of the Israel-Hamas ceasefire exchange. In an emotional interview, his mother, Intisar Bayyoud, shares her pain, hopes, and the deep love for her son — whom she was only allowed to visit three times in over two decades.
Arrested in 2002 and convicted in connection with an attack on Israeli soldiers, Habes Bayyoud has spent most of his life in Israeli prisons. Now, under a US-brokered ceasefire and prisoner exchange deal, he is among the 250 Palestinians to be freed.
Despite reports that Bayyoud will be deported upon release, his mother says: “What matters is that he’s free – walking, breathing, seeing the sun.”
