Dorsal soft rays (total): 8 - 9; Anal soft rays: 16 - 23. This species is distinguished from its congeners by the following set of characters: claustrum present; three infraorbitals present Ios 1+2+3; premaxillary teeth 14-20, maxillary teeth 24-29, and dentary teeth 24-34; single postcleithrum; five branched pelvic-fin rays; adipose fin absent; anal-fin base 25-31 %SL; caudal peduncle 18-24 %SL (Ref. 133463).
Body shape (shape guide): elongated; Cross section: oval.
This species inhabits black water systems, including shallow riverine and slow-flowing forest stream with dense aquatic vegetation, where the type specimens were collected (Ref. 133463).
