Taxi fares in the County Town are to go up.

Maidstone council’s licensing committee has agreed a request from the Maidstone Taxi Proprietors Association to increase the cost of a running mile to £1.99 from £1.86.

Although the rise won't be welcomed by many customers, the charges will still be below the average for Kent.

It costs £2.40 in Tunbridge Wells; £2.20 in Tonbridge and Malling and the highest is Canterbury, where a running miles costs £2.50.
