  • Climate change is reshaping healthcare, and nurses and midwives are at the forefront of the response. From worsening air quality to rising health risks, the impacts are here now. That’s why the ANMF partnered with The Lancet Countdown to put health at the centre of Australia’s climate response - with clear, evidence-based priorities for action. These priorities were featured in the 2025 Lancet Report, released ahead of COP30, and outline what must happen next: 👉 Cleaner air with enforceable national standards 👉 Long-term funding to protect health from climate impacts 👉 Shifting fossil fuel subsidies into health and climate science 🎥 A powerful webinar with expert speakers unpacks what this means for healthcare workers and our communities. • When the devastating 2019-20 bushfires hit, four dedicated South Australian nurses and Army Reservists answered the call. Deployed to Kangaroo Island for Operation Bushfire Assist, Michelle Farror, Martina Schipp, Suzie Rattigan and Hollie Sargeant set up crucial health facilities to support both defence personnel and the KI community. But their duties soon extended beyond human care… These amazing nurses soon found themselves using their triage and wound-management skills to help save hundreds of injured koalas and native wildlife. • When we first met Chloe Caire, she was balancing two degrees while working as an Assistant in Nursing. Today, she balances life as both a Registered Nurse in the Royal Adelaide Hospital’s ICU and a Registered Midwife at Mount Barker Hospital. “People often ask me which role I prefer, and honestly, it’s hard to choose. Both environments are very supportive and person-centred,” says Chloe. Chloe’s drive comes from her own lived experience. Having managed severe endometriosis since the age of 14, she knows how important genuine advocacy can be. “I wouldn’t have the quality of life or the passion for my career without the healthcare professionals who advocated for me. It’s a real privilege to now be on the other side, advocating for people facing similar challenges,” she shares. Chloe’s story is a true testament to the resilience and care that drive many of us.
