Important News – Conviction Overturned for Mark Johnson ACI Financial Markets Association would like to inform you that, on 17th July 2025, the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit decided to overturn the conviction of former HSBC executive Mark Johnson, who was originally convicted in October 2017 of wire fraud related to a $3.5 billion foreign exchange order executed in October 2011 with Cairn Energy. Over the course of this process, ACI Financial Markets Association filed three Amicus Briefs to support his defence (details below), given that our Association believes that the charges brought in this case are in opposition to: - Widely accepted terms of industry standard master agreements - Laws and regulations specifically applicable to foreign exchange - Established market-wide standards, custom, and practice embodied in specific provisions of the FX Global Code which is fully supported by ACI Financial Markets Association To support a key core value of ACI Financial Markets Association, our members are longstanding proponents, promoters and influencers of ethical conduct and good market practices among financial markets professionals, so we wish to express our appreciation to this action from the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. Today, ACI Financial Markets Association celebrates its 70th Anniversary, In fact, the start of our global community of financial markets professionals started on the 29th of June 1955 in Paris/France, where representatives from nine countries had their initial meeting, as there was a growing need to connect, beyond national borders, with fellow professionals belonging to the same network. 70 years on and the ACI Financial Markets Association community is stronger than ever, and that can only be possible due to the passion, dedication and drive for excellency which are continuously shown by the members of the 61 Associations currently affiliated to ACI Financial Markets Association. Welcome ACI FMA Oman – ACI FMA’s Newest Member ACI Financial Markets Association (ACI FMA) is pleased to announce the official affiliation of ACIFMA Oman as the newest member of our global network. The affiliation was formally approved on 18 June 2025, during the ACI FMA Council meeting held at the Maison de la Chimie in Paris. ACIFMA Oman submitted a comprehensive application for membership, accompanied by all required documentation. The proposal received unanimous approval from the ACI FMA Council, marking a significant milestone in expanding ACI FMA’s presence in the Middle East. Representing ACIFMA Oman at the Council meeting were Ms. Suad Al Balushi, FRM, ACI, President, and Mr. Saeed Al-Hinai, Vice-President, who expressed their enthusiasm for joining the global ACI FMA community. They reaffirmed their commitment to active engagement and collaboration with regional and international counterparts within the ACI network.
