Airbnb was born in 2007 when two hosts welcomed three guests to their San Francisco home, and has since grown to over 5 million hosts who have welcomed over 2 billion guest arrivals in almost every country across the globe. Every day, hosts offer unique stays, experiences and services that make it possible for guests to connect with communities in a more authentic way.
In 2025, Airbnb.org provided free emergency stays for over 33,000 people, totaling more than 126,000 nights.
Our incredible community of generous hosts, donors, volunteers, and partners helped us respond to more than 60 disasters this year.
Meet the guests who were given a home when they needed it the most, and the hosts who make our work possible.
With your help, we can help even more people in 2026.
“The world is just endlessly interesting.” — Hiroki Asai, Airbnb Chief Experience Officer

"The problem with politics—I don’t have a better system, but it’s 50-plus-one. You have to divide them and get plus one. And it is inherently a divisive thing, and Airbnb’s mission is inherently unifying.
Do you know the number of Trump supporters who stayed in a house of a Kamala Harris supporter over the course of the election? Millions. Do you know the number of Democrats, Republicans that live together and don’t even know they’re Democrats and Republicans? When you travel, it’s one of the few times in your life that you’re truly open-minded.” - Brian Chesky
Across Japan’s countryside, approximately 9 million homes sit quietly, steeped in history but standing empty. By 2033, one in three rural homes could be vacant.
To help change that, we launched the Akiya Design Project with the Japan Kominka Association and cultural icons Kiko Mizuhara and Rola. Together, we restored traditional kominka homes in Kyoto and Ibaraki, transforming them into spaces where travelers can experience authentic Japanese culture firsthand.
This project isn’t just about beautiful design. It's about reviving rural tourism, preserving cultural heritage, and supporting local communities.
These kominka may be off the beaten path, but their deep history and sense of place make them destinations in their own right. A reminder that sometimes, the most meaningful travel experiences lie far from the familiar.
Next year’s FIFA World Cup 26™ will bring 104 matches, 48 nations, and 16 host cities. But the real story is what it means for the people and neighborhoods that make the world’s game possible.
That’s why this week in Brooklyn, we joined FIFA World Cup 26™ New York New Jersey, Olympic champion Carli Lloyd, and local leaders to announce Airbnb’s $1M+ community investment across New York and New Jersey.
Our commitment includes:
⚽ Building five new soccer mini-pitches for kids and families in the Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island, and New Jersey (with US Soccer Foundation)
🏟️ Hosting two free community celebrations in Queens and the Bronx
🌍 Creating opportunities for local shops, small businesses, and families to benefit from hosting the world’s biggest sporting event
Because the World Cup shouldn’t just be about what happens on the field. It should leave behind lasting spaces to play, connect, and grow.
