  • This week’s #FeaturedFriday shines the spotlight on Neel Sendas, coauthor of “𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗗𝗲𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗚𝘂𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗠𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗢𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗔𝗪𝗦: 𝗠𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗢𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗶𝘇𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗔𝗪𝗦.” He shared a bit about his writing experience & inspiration with us: 𝗤: 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗱𝗶𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗱𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝗮𝘂𝗱𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗸? “Working closely with customers on #ML initiatives, I realized that there's a lot of material and focus on ML model development and data scientists, but very few resources address how to manage ML applications at scale to deliver operational excellence through resiliency, security, and observability. This gap in knowledge became apparent as I found organizations struggle to move from successful ML experiments to production-ready, scalable solutions. That’s why I wanted to write a book that would serve as a bridge between data science, software engineering, and IT operations, focusing on professionals who are responsible for or interested in the end-to-end lifecycle of ML applications on #AWS. This includes #MLOps engineers, #DevOps professionals, data scientists, and technology leaders who want to ensure their ML initiatives are scalable, reliable, and operationally sound.” 𝗤: 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗿𝗼𝗹𝗲 𝗱𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝘆𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝗻 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗸? “Firstly, my years of hands-on experience working with AWS and machine learning technologies gave me a deep understanding of the practical challenges that organizations face when operationalizing ML. Throughout my career, I've worked with a diverse range of clients across various industries. This exposure has allowed me to see how different sectors approach MLOps, their unique challenges, and the common threads that run through successful implementations. Additionally, my involvement in both successful and failed ML projects provided invaluable insights. The failures were instrumental in helping me identify common pitfalls and develop strategies to avoid them – knowledge that I've woven throughout the book. In essence, this book is a culmination of my professional journey in the world of AWS and machine learning. It reflects not just what I know, but what I've learned works best in practice, the mistakes I've seen, and the strategies I've found most effective in navigating the complex landscape of MLOps on AWS.”   𝗙𝗼𝗿 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗼𝗻 Neel’𝘀 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗸: https://lnkd.in/eEKKUfHG 𝗪𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝘄𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗮 𝘁𝗲𝗰𝗵 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗔𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀? • This week’s #FeaturedFriday shines the spotlight on Marco Gaehler, author of “𝗦𝗼𝗳𝘁𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗘𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗠𝗮𝗱𝗲 𝗘𝗮𝘀𝘆: 𝗔 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗵𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗚𝘂𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗪𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗚𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗖𝗼𝗱𝗲.” He shared a bit about his writing experience & inspiration with us: 𝗤: 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘁𝗼 𝘄𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗸? “I learned programming at university, but I was dissatisfied. I learned some basic syntax but no general concepts on how to write code, even though there are so many simple rules to apply. Classes should be small, code should be easy to read, etc. As I found out, there are many good books out there that teach you how to get started. I wanted to author a single book that contains all of the most important insights in one place.”    𝗤: 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗶𝗴𝗴𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲𝘀? “I read about a dozen books that influenced my book. I wouldn't say that it was harder than expected, but it certainly took a lot of time to read and understand all the existing literature. There are many things that are not simply right or wrong, and my hope was to highlight the most important aspects.”    𝗤: 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝗱𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗴𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝘄𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝘄𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗮 𝗻𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗶𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗸? “You need to have a lot of ideas about what you could write. Secondly, you need to have a lot of time. • This week’s #FeaturedFriday shines the spotlight on Tom Auger and Emma Saroyan, coauthors of “𝗚𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗔𝗜 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗪𝗲𝗯 𝗗𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁: 𝗕𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗪𝗲𝗯 𝗔𝗽𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗣𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗯𝘆 𝗢𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗔𝗜 𝗔𝗣𝗜𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗡𝗲𝘅𝘁.𝗷𝘀.” They shared a bit about their writing experience & inspiration with us: 𝗤: 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘁𝗼 𝘄𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗸? “AI is evolving at breakneck speed and is already shifting how web developers approach coding. We felt there was a gap for a practical book—one that helps engineers new to #generativeAI understand how to use it effectively in real projects.” 𝗤: 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗱𝗶𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗱𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗼𝗿𝗴𝗮𝗻𝗶𝘇𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗸? “We knew early on that it had to be hands on—something you could dip into, not just read cover to cover. So we structured it around a few standalone chapters, each focused on building a concrete project. We chose three different projects that each showed a different way to build web apps using #AI, to give readers a variety of angles. Naturally, the book is split into two halves: the first gives the background—what generative AI is, how it works, and why it matters—while the second half dives into the practical projects.” 𝗤: 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗿𝗼𝗹𝗲 𝗱𝗶𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 & 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝘆 𝗶𝗻 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗸? “Tom comes from a background in computer science and AI, with over eight years working in software engineering. He’s been using these tools every day, seeing first-hand how they can boost productivity for both individual developers and whole teams. Emma’s background is in developer advocacy—she has experience on how to explain technical ideas to other developers. Together, that gave us a good balance of depth and clarity.” 𝗤: 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗶𝗴𝗴𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗳𝗮𝗰𝗲𝗱 𝘄𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗲 𝘄𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗸? “The pace of change in AI is relentless. That meant having to revisit chapters we’d already written to keep everything current.” 𝗙𝗼𝗿 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗼𝗻 𝗧𝗼𝗺 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗘𝗺𝗺𝗮’𝘀 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗸: https://lnkd.in/e4T8WD92 𝗪𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝘄𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗮 𝘁𝗲𝗰𝗵 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗔𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀? Are you responsible for DR/BC testing in your organization? Are you looking for resources on how to run a tabletop exercise? I have a new book available now from Apress named "Gamified Tabletop Exercises for Effective Disaster Recovery Testing", and it's available from all major booksellers. This book outlines the same techniques we use at EliteSec for designing and executing tabletop exercises for our clients, and is based on the work I've been honing for the past decade. I take a different approach to a traditional tabletop by ensuring your participants are forced off the "happy path". If you've read the book, I'd appreciate a review on Amazon to help others find it as well. Happy planning everyone!

Then I started writing paragraphs in each chapter as they came to me. At first, I didn't worry too much about correctness, I just put the ideas down. Once I had a draft, I went through it and edited it again and again until I was happy with it.”    𝗤: 𝗠𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝘁𝗲𝗰𝗵 𝗮𝘂𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗿𝘀 𝘄𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗸𝘀 𝗮𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸/𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀—𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝗱𝗶𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲𝘁𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗸? “Besides my fulltime job, I was also caring for my pregnant wife, which made time limited. This week’s #FeaturedFriday shines the spotlight on Sonu Kapoor, author of “𝗕𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗝𝗮𝘃𝗮𝗦𝗰𝗿𝗶𝗽𝘁 𝗦𝘆𝗻𝘁𝗮𝘅: 𝗨𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝘆𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗥𝘂𝗹𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗕𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗝𝗮𝘃𝗮𝗦𝗰𝗿𝗶𝗽𝘁 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴.” He shared a bit about his writing experience with us: 𝗤: 𝗗𝗲𝘀𝗰𝗿𝗶𝗯𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘄𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲... “Writing this book was a deeply rewarding experience, equal parts challenging and fulfilling. I’ve written countless technical articles before, but writing a full book required a completely different level of structure, consistency, and clarity. What surprised me the most was how much discipline it took to keep the tone accessible while still being technically accurate. It was harder than I expected, especially maintaining the right balance between simplicity and depth, but also an incredibly satisfying journey.” 𝗤: 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘀𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗹𝗲 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘄𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗸? “My writing process was quite structured. I blocked out early mornings and weekends exclusively for writing. Each session began with reviewing the previous chapter and refining it before moving on. I used a mind map to lay out the chapter flow and kept a living outline that evolved as the book took shape. I also leaned heavily on real-world examples from my career, teaching through scenarios I know developers face.” 𝗤: 𝗔𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘄𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗱𝗼 𝗱𝗶𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗹𝘆 𝗶𝗳 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘄𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗸? “Absolutely. If I were to do it again, I’d allocate more upfront time to finalize the structure and table of contents. That would have reduced some of the mid-process reshuffling I had to do. I’d also involve beta readers earlier, getting feedback from real users mid-way can help catch blind spots before it's too late. Lastly, I’d build more breaks into the schedule. Writing a book is a marathon, and pacing matters.” 𝗙𝗼𝗿 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗼𝗻 𝗦𝗼𝗻𝘂’𝘀 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗸: https://lnkd.in/eDyeKbpC 𝗪𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝘄𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗮 𝘁𝗲𝗰𝗵 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗔𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀? This week’s #FeaturedFriday shines the spotlight on Cathy O., author of “𝗖𝘆𝗯𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗲: 𝗔 𝗛𝘂𝗺𝗮𝗻-𝗖𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗔𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝘁𝗼 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆.” She shared a bit about her writing experience & inspiration with us: 𝗤: 𝗗𝗲𝘀𝗰𝗿𝗶𝗯𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘄𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲... “I wanted to collect all the lessons learned from speaking to so many amazing people I crossed paths with in the #cybersecurity world. The initial draft was like a brain dump, but it was a bit messy and needed more structure. It took me a long time to get the flow and structure right. I wanted to ensure that the reader would get the most possible value out of my book, no matter who they were. I kept that goal top of mind. What I struggled with the most was imposter syndrome. The more I read and edited the book, the more I questioned myself and my book. But thanks to the support of friends, family, and the Apress team, I kept going and gave it my best. That’s all I could do and that’s ultimately what I was the proudest of: I didn’t quit.” 𝗤: 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘁𝗼 𝘄𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲? “I’ve worked in the cybersecurity domain for over 12 years. Over time, I noticed a few trends that were very troubling. Writing this book was an effort to share my perspective and challenge the status quo with the ultimate goal to improve our collective cybersecurity posture. I wanted to rewrite the people story in cybersecurity. These trends were:  • Year over year, the bad guys keep winning. There are more incidents, more breaches and the cost of these breaches is only going up. We are losing.  • The talent gap is still a thing in cybersecurity, and the diversity gap is not getting better either. We seem to impose very high barriers of entry, while in cybercrime there are absolutely none.  • We keep making cybersecurity a technical thing, something the cybersecurity experts at companies need to handle. We don’t include anyone else. But everyone is on the frontline with cyber criminals. Everyone. Not just people in corporations, but small business owners, our kids and our parents too. All of us are being targeted, hacked, robbed, fooled and manipulated daily.   • Cybersecurity is not introduced to people when they are introduced to technology. Whether it’s parents giving kids a smart phone or gaming console, or teachers using computers and cloud-based applications at school: cybersecurity and, by extension, #privacy and #safety are not discussed. This is creating a massive blind eye in our community, a weakness being exploited every single day by a lot of very bad people.” 𝗙𝗼𝗿 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗼𝗻 𝗖𝗮𝘁𝗵𝘆’𝘀 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗸: https://lnkd.in/euh3mybp #Apressauthor #cybersafe #cybercrime #cybersecuritytalentgap #passwords #twofactorauthentication #authentication #digitalID #cyberrisk
