Twin sisters celebrate graduation and awards win Identical twin sisters Carly Gallagher (left image) and Kelly Mellor both recently graduated from at the University of Salford via the Police Constable Degree Apprenticeship route – which meant they were studying at university while also learning on the job as student officers. If that wasn’t enough of an achievement, they were announced joint winners of the Student Achievement Award for Police Constable Degree Apprenticeship at an awards ceremony last week. Carly explained: “Policing is something I’ve always wanted to do, from seeing my uncle as a police officer to being interested in police programmes on TV and the idea of helping others. I wanted to become a police officer myself and be able to be a friendly face for someone in need.” The sisters’ perseverance and dedication has paid off, resulting in their successful graduation with their degree apprenticeships from the university. Kelly said: “We both always aim high and want to do a good job; we’ve got an amazing work ethic, and I believe that comes from our mum.” Congratulations, both!

Counter terrorism experts host 'security advice and guidance' event in Bolton Among the 200 attendees on Wednesday 2 July were officers and staff from the five north west police forces, local authorities, representatives from NWAS and regional fire services, who through the collaborative partnership provide support to help protect and prepare, should a terrorist threat occur. The session was supported by Janice McMahon from Steroplast Healthcare, provider of PAcT public access trauma first aid kits, and GMP’s Project Servator team. Project Servator is a policing tactic used by a number of UK police forces. It aims to disrupt a range of criminal activity, including terrorism, while providing a reassuring presence for the public. It is an inclusive collaborative community strategy that aims to protect local areas and build upon the safety and security plans already in place to ensure safety and security. Agencies from across the north west join forces for major incident training exercise Participants from Greater Manchester Police (GMP), Counter Terrorism Policing (CTP), North West Ambulance Service (NWAS), and Greater Manchester Fire & Rescue Service (GMFRS) joined colleagues from the military and other public agencies to take part in the three day exercise, beginning on Tuesday (24 June 2025). As the live-play scenario unfolded over the following days, specialist resources were tested, including counter terrorism specialist firearms officers, Hazardous Area Response Teams (HART), and CBRN response trained officers. Assistant Chief Constable Rob Potts, who took on the role of exercise director, said: “Last week’s exercise was the culmination of months of planning and preparation. It was one of the largest multi-agency exercises undertaken by the emergency services in this country in recent years, and I’m pleased to say that it was a success. “I want to say thank you to all those who took part, particularly the planning teams who have been preparing the exercise for several months. "It has given us a positive opportunity to rigorously test our response model and the processes we have in place, and now we have a further opportunity to consider how we can strengthen that model. “Although we hope that scenarios such as these will never happen, it is incredibly important that we are as prepared as we possibly can be so that we can respond effectively, as the public would rightly expect.” More: https://lnkd.in/eherz-PQ
