The mission of the foundation is to support the Nix ecosystem's infrastructure, and projects implementing the purely functional deployment model. In particular, the foundation supports Nix, Nixpkgs, NixOS, and operates: cache.nixos.org - the NixOS binary cache, containing over 120TB of prebuilt Nix packages. hydra.nixos.org - a Nix build farm, consisting of hundreds of macOS, x86-64 (Linux) and aarch64 (Linux) build cores. Hydra executes over 350,000 builds each week. The NixOS Foundation is a registered non-profit organisation at the Chamber of commerce (Kamer van Koophandel) in Utrecht, The Netherlands. From hand-sized satellites and 3D printed microscopes to Linux phones! 🛰️📱 That’s probably the kind of things you get to see at FOSDEM. #FOSDEM2026 was super interesting and once again showed how much the NixOS community has grown and to meet many familiar and new industry partners and vendors. A special shout-out to Wessel Klein Snakenborg from NovaCustom for a great conversation and congrats on finally shipping with NixOS! 🚀 It was also great meeting Denver Gingerich from Software Freedom Conservancy and discussing porting NixOS to OpenWrt, talking to Josh Zheng from Tenstorrent, and seeing alternatives to Nvidia GPUs, Susan Remmert from The Linux Foundation, 🗡⚔️🛡Yuning Liang from DeepComputing, Julian Stirling from Humanitarian Technology Trust seeing the project growing and especially catching up with Jonas Chevalier from Numtide about industry collaboration within the NixOS ecosystem. Most of our NixOS merch was gone within just a few hours on the first day! Huge thanks to all the volunteers who made this possible. 🙌 Bryan H., Thilo Billerbeck, Richard Brežák, especially Paul M. for the initial organization and everyone else who I forgot to mention or is not on Linkedin. It was also a pleasure to talk to companies that aren’t using Nix yet and to explore potential future use cases together. Events like FOSDEM are always a good opportunity for open source people to catch up, exchange ideas and of course meet friends again — Tristan Ross, Jörg Thalheim, Matthew Croughan and many more!
