NV Access

🚀 No one can tell you that tech isn’t for you. When I was younger, I was told by teachers that computer science wasn’t possible for me because of my disability. Alhamdulillah, today I have graduated with a BSc in Digital and Technology Solutions from De Montfort University and now work as a DevOps Engineer. This journey shows that nothing can stop you if you are determined, consistent, and — above all — if Allah wills. I taught myself programming as a child despite the doubts of others, and that foundation helped me get to where I am today. 👉 I also want to raise awareness of the support available for people with disabilities in the UK. Through the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), the Access to Work scheme provides funding and adjustments that can make careers more accessible — whether in tech or any other field. This support is a real game-changer, but it works best when combined with dedication and self-belief. 🌍 I also believe open-source software drives inclusion in the workplace. •  Thanks to the amazing NV Access team behind NVDA, who provide a free and open-source screen reader, I am able to use computers and work on any Windows machine in tech and even use terminal environments like WSL. •  And thanks to the GNOME Foundation for creating the Orca screen reader, I can access Linux environments — where most web servers live — and do my work in DevOps. These tools are proof that open-source innovation can break down barriers and empower people worldwide. To me, disability is not a limitation — it’s a different ability. With the right support, opportunities, and mindset, there are so many ways to achieve your goals, whether through employment or self-employment. 💡 Don’t let society limit your success. Be bold, challenge the norm, achieve your dreams — and most importantly, enjoy the journey.
