The government’s New Towns Taskforce has revealed 12 potential sites across England for large-scale housing and development, with work on Tempsford, Crews Hill, and Leeds South Bank prioritised before the next general election. The taskforce has also urged interim planning measures to prevent speculative development and ensure coordinated delivery of up to 300,000 homes across the sites. Housing minister Matthew Pennycook said designating housing as critical national infrastructure remains a possibility, whilst ministers deny reports that a new planning bill is being drawn up, confirming focus remains on the progressing the Planning and Infrastructure Bill through parliament.
