Ravi’s story is a good example of how AI should actually fit into our work. He didn’t know Vue, he didn’t fully understand the Kestra codebase at first, but instead of depending on AI to do everything, he used it just enough to figure out difficult parts and keep moving. It helped him learn, not skip the learning. The real takeaway from this blog is that you don’t need to know everything to contribute to open source. You just need to start, explore the project, and let AI support you wherever things get confusing. Link🔗: https://lnkd.in/gzKAv3zc

Happy New Year from WeMakeDevs 🎉 2025 was about building, learning, shipping, and showing up for each other. Thousands of devs. Countless commits. A lot of late nights that turned into real progress. In 2026, we go bigger. More open source. More learning. More community. More wins together. If you wrote your first line of code with us or shipped something you’re proud of, this space is yours. Let’s make it count!

Kavya’s Kestra journey during the WeMakeDevs Open Source Fest might be relatable to every new contributor, from failed builds and confusing errors to dependency and version mismatches. But as she progressed, her learning made her increasingly comfortable with how real production systems are built and maintained. What makes the blog stand out is its honesty about the process: learning conventions, handling feedback, debugging, and understanding the importance of structure and consistency across plugins. If you want a genuine look into contributing to open source, this one is worth reading. Link 🔗 : https://lnkd.in/gUTYGRA5

Biplab’s Kestra journey during the WeMakeDevs Open Source Fest is packed with the kind of lessons you only learn by doing. From Google Drive triggers to Gmail integrations, CloudQuery migrations, and deep state-management debugging, every feature pushed him to think like someone building for real production users. The blog explores everything that happens behind the scenes in software development, from the testing mistakes and the wake-up calls to the late-night refactors. If you want a raw, relatable look at what open-source growth truly feels like, this is a must-read. Link 🔗 : https://lnkd.in/g9F5zCWb

Quick update on the AI Agents Hackathon winners announcement 📢 We’re currently deep into judging the projects. We received a lot of submissions, and they’re genuinely impressive. To be fair to everyone and make sure nothing gets missed, we’re taking a bit of extra time. With the holiday season around the corner, some sponsor judges are also briefly unavailable. No stress though. Results will be announced shortly. Honestly, the quality of what you’ve built has been incredible. We’d strongly encourage you to keep working on your projects even after the hackathon. Fun fact: Twitter started as a hackathon project! You never know where these things lead 🚀

Archana’s Kestra contribution during the WeMakeDevs Open Source Fest is a great example of how impactful a single focused PR can be. She worked on detecting stuck schedules in Kestra’s workflow engine, diving into the core logic, writing tests, and understanding how production systems behave when things don’t run on time. What stood out was how she handled testing challenges and how Kestra's maintainers supported her throughout the process. Worth reading if you’re thinking of contributing.
