“"The excitement around AI is at an all-time high. But those in the know remain cautious. Peter Sarlin is the AI expert I rely on to tell where the field is moving. Peter has been building AI-driven products for the real world for more than ten years. By AI standards, he’s a veteran. Five years ago Peter co-founded Silo AI and has been at the lead since the inception. The business has been growing rapidly. Today Silo AI is one of Europe’s largest AI labs with nearly 250 experts, 130 of them holding PhDs. At Silo AI, he has led projects involving computer vision and sensor fusion for autonomous vehicles, covering cars, vessels and heavy machinery with companies like Honda, Rolls-Royce and Sandvik. They have applied deep learning for cancer diagnosis with Philips; machine learning for visual quality control with Intel, Körber and many others. He has also been an advisor for the European Central Bank and the IMF on AI-based approaches to financial stability surveillance. I’m in awe of all the things Peter Sarlin has been doing over the past decade. He is at the leading edge in applying AI tools to solve business problems – work that requires deep insight into the rapidly evolving field. As a Professor of Practice at Aalto University in Finland, he is in an ideal position to move theoretical insights into practical applications. He is a prolific writer of scientific articles on AI, including a well-received book on the topic. He is a bundle of energy and enthusiasm, but at the same time a very level-headed evaluator of AI.
