If youre an engineering Aus right now and you enjoy working with infrastructure either directly as a Platform/Cloud/DevOps/SRE etc or directly or indirectly as Engineer or Security then I’d be looking at getting to grips with GCP. The adoption rate of GCP is increasing by business because of their offerings in Data and Ai and a lot of business I am speaking to are pulling the trigger on these workloads. The overall talent pool for this space is small compared to other clouds. AWS have dominated the market, Azure has been on the rise over the past few years and now Google are well and truely coming to the party! #GCP

Hello everyone ☀️ Here are 3 things we’re seeing in the software space right now: 🟢 Salary bandings are moving: After holding firm for the past few years, organisations are starting to lift ranges to stay competitive. 🟢 Overseas companies hiring in NZ: Offshore orgs (often with deeper pockets) continue to hire remotely here. We are also seeing more and more Australian companies looking to building software capability in NZ. 🟢 AI is becoming critical: AI experience has shifted from a “nice to have” to a genuine hiring differentiator. As AI embeds into day-to-day development, strong prompting, questioning outputs, and validating results are now essential skills for devs(more on this next week). As the NZ market continues to bounce back, we’re already seeing early signs of talent constraints across software. 👉🏼What trends are you noticing on your side, and how are you adapting to them?

Can we stop putting “SOLID” in .NET job requirements in 2025? It’s 2025 and we’re still treating SOLID like it’s a litmus test for seniority. Modern .NET engineers are shipping functional cores, vertical slices, explicit delegates, composable pipelines, and event driven systems. Nobody is sitting around debating Liskov substitutions while designing real workloads. If you want strong engineers, ask for skills that matter today: reasoning about boundaries, modeling with clarity, designing for reliability and change, and not turning every solution into a dependency circus. SOLID isn’t harmful, it’s just outdated as a hiring filter. We moved on. Job descriptions should too.

Contractors release the same role to large PSLs at the same time. The same CV lands on the same desk repeatedly, stripped of context. No one is acting in bad faith. But the system creates noise. TA inboxes flood. Signal drops. Hiring managers start asking questions that have nothing to do with capability. 𝗠𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗼𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀𝗻’𝘁 𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘂𝗺. 𝗜𝘁 𝘂𝘀𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗱𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗼𝘆𝘀 𝗶𝘁. The engineers who transition well don’t try to be everywhere. They control the route to market and keep the narrative tight. The contractors who hire well do the same.
