The Women’s Commission of the World Karate Federation (WKF) has taken significant steps towards enhancing female representation and influence within karate. Following the 2024 World Cadet, Junior & U21 Championships in Venice-Jesolo, the commission led by Chairperson Sarah Wennerstrom (Sweden), with members Fariba Madani (USA) and Rosanna Kassis (Australia), conducted several meetings to expand opportunities and increase the number of women in key karate roles.

The World Karate Federation (WKF) Commissions gathered during the 2024 World Cadet, Junior & U21 Karate Championships in Venice-Jesolo, Italy, to review and assess the sport's progress across various areas. The meetings focused on ensuring that karate's development reaches every aspect of the sport and maintains its growth and global appeal.

The PKF Women's Congress, held during the PKF Senior Championships in Punta del Este, Uruguay, marked a significant milestone in the promotion of women's participation in karate across the Americas. The meeting, which attracted 35 participants from 9 countries, was chaired by PKF Women's Commission Chairman Mónica Irungaray and PKF President José García Maañón.

In a dedicated effort to honour International Women's Day on March 8, the World Karate Federation (WKF) proudly announces the launch of a new section on its website, specifically dedicated to the WKF Women's Sport Commission. Chaired by Sarah Wennerstrom, the commission includes members Rossana Kassis and Fariba Madani, embodying a commitment to diversity and empowerment of women within the karate community.

The renovated WKF Women’s Commission met in Budapest (Hungary) during the 2023 World Senior Championships to open a new era in the protection of women’s issues in the organisation and to further highlight the many achievements in gender equality in the sport over the last years.

The increasing prominence of women in Karate was celebrated this past weekend during the 2023 PKF Senior Championships. The PKF’s leading women gathered in Costa Rica, showing the growing influence of women in international Karate managing positions.

WKF President Antonio Espinós sat with leading female representatives of the Pan American Karate Federation (PKF) to discuss the growing prominence of women in the decision-making bodies of international Karate.

Mrs. Carmela Diaz, WKF Women Sports Commission Chair, held a Seminar in Tokyo in order to continue her work in the 5 continents. The Seminar supported by the Japan Karate Do Federation was held at the dojo in JKF office building with Mr. Takashi Sasagawa (JKF President) and Mr. Shigeo Kurihara (JKF Vice President) in the opening ceremony. 

With the presnce of Ms. Yasmin Chan (representative of the Commission in Asia), Atsuko Wakai (4 times World Champion), Rumiko Oki (a member of WKF Technical Committee) and 16 other women representing Japan, 7 representing Macau and 1 representative from Indonesia.
