Measles would like to announce that the winner of the 2026 Measles Peace Prize -- "Measles Infects The World" -- has been awarded to Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.!!
“In an increasingly unsettled and divided world, it’s fundamental to recognise the outstanding contribution of those who work hard to spread measles and bring people together to be infected,” said FIFAMeasles President Gianni Infantino.
Not sure if this is still statistically true, but at least early in 2025, the only thing polling lower than Trump's approval rating
... was the Democratic Party's approval rating.
Isn't the disclaimer at the bottom basically just ... "Law enforcement people should follow the law" ???
The mere presence of an individual .. is not indicative of nefarious activity.
Law enforcement action should not be taken solely on the basis of the exercise of constitutionally protected rights,
... should not interpret this product as a tasking or encouragement to monitor activity on these platforms.
Did ANY of that really need to be said ... nevermind, I know the answer.
I would also like to request that people stop using the word "airport" and instead use "a place for airplanes to take off and land along with the buildings and supporting infrastructure necessary to maintain and refuel them, and the buildings and supporting infrastructure needed to get passengers and their luggage on and off of the airplanes." (*) The latter is clearly more accurate and descriptive so everyone should use it.
More seriously -- yes, the word is awkward -- but as you mention, it's been in use for several years, so it's now just a part of language.
(*) hat tip to IT columnist Bob Lewis for the wording
The tech details kinda matter too -- how do you measure screen time? (how do they know what the user is doing in between separate network connection requests?)
I might connect to the service at 3:00pm, then again at 3:15pm ... that could be one continuous interaction (15min of screen time) or it could be two, short 1-min interactions (2min of screen time).
(admittedly, today's social media clients are constantly making calls back to the server and can easily track this, but what if there is some kind of "offline" mode)
To be fair, there WERE a lot of "discrepancies" in the 2020 election:
There were those Republicans who breached a voting system
There were Republicans who disenfranched tens of thousands of voters, including Republican lawsuits to stop counting votes that had been duly collected
There were counts of Russian interference which benefitted Republican candidates (and a Republican candidate who seemed to solicit such interference)
There was a Republican plot to replace the chosen electors with a fake slate of electors
So, YES, I think we should teach all of that to our kids!
The article points out two-thirds of Idaho’s fetal medicine specialists have left the state because continuing to provide the care they have for years puts them in danger of being prosecuted under the state’s abortion law.
TWO-FUCKING-THIRDS of the doctors have left already?!?!
When I was a kid, there was "you're autistic" (meaning the barely functioning, incessant top-spinning, Rainman-esque view of autism -- no judgement here, just stating how it was) and there was "you're a weird kid". There was no spectrum.
As science investigated this more, we've become better able to diagnose people (hence the spectrum and cross-connections to other conditions, etc.) .. it's almost as if SCIENCE ACTUALLY WORKS!
But I suppose it's not surprising that the anti-science party doesn't get that.
(and, for what it's worth, his name is Bobby Brainworm and no one will ever convince me otherwise)
At first, I thought this was going to be one of TechCrunch's mergers-are-pointless writeups: Verizon sold assets to Frontier in 2009. If Verizon didn't want it back then, why now?
The report attempts to sidestep that conclusion by repeatedly ignoring the actual use in question—training —and focusing instead on how the model may be ultimately used.
This suggests that the trained model itself is the thing of value -- but that is demonstrably not true. No one wants the model -- the trillions of parameters and weights are not meaningful or useful by themselves. What they want is the ability to produce outputs from that model.
So I might grant you that the training is fair use, but the moment you use the model, it sure feels like that's infringement.
That resulted in the Max lineup being inundated with just a bottomless array of reality TV dreck with names like “Fuckboy Island.”
This s*** is breaking what's left of my sarcasm and irony detector ... I was gonna google if "Fuckboy Island" is a real show or not ... but I just. can't. even.
“[Cable division CEO] Dave [Watson] and his team have worked hard to understand the reasons for this disconnect and have identified two primary causes. One is price transparency and predictability and the other is the level of ease of doing business with us.
This just feels like epic-levels of trolling. Over the past 30-40 years, the one phrase that has united Democrats, Republicans, and even Independents has been: "The cable company SUCKS!"
And now, 30-40 years too late, they're finally getting that message? c'mon, no one can be that dense ... can they?
Ummm, I'd just like to say that I also donated 1000 Starlink satellite access kits to the Carolinas! Sure I did! I guarantee it!
(hey, "The rules were that you guys weren’t going to fact-check!")
There’s just one problem: Adults do care about age verification.
Seems like this data must now exist -- compare average daily views (or whatever) before and after the law was in force. Since accounts are free and nearly instantaneous to set up, any drop in usage must have come from adults "caring" about verification.

FIFAMeasles President Gianni Infantino.Me: Did you see the batshit insane thing he wrote this morning? Wife: You're gonna have to be more specific. ... that's just life in the USA in 2026.

companies like Facebook were too innovatively incompetent to dethrone them in the open market... but ... but ... Threads! The disclaimer at the bottom is telling

Full circle?

Epic trolling?

Y'all ... we thought the adverts were bad before, but think of how many ad's Google's gotta be selling NOW to make up for this fine!!
