Oklahoma is a state in the South Central region of the US and is a major producer of natural gas, oil and agricultural products. The landscape is diverse with ancient mountain ranges, prairie and forests and most of the state lies in regions prone to severe weather. In the 2020 census, 14.2 per cent of Oklahomans identified as Native Americans — the highest indigenous proportionate percentage by any state — and there are 26 indigenous languages spoken in Oklahoma. It leans politically conservative and the Republican party has held significant sway in both state and federal elections with the state voting consistently for Republican presidential candidates since 1968.
