Gisèle Pélicot, 72, is a French woman who waived her right to anonymity during the trial of her husband and 50 men accused of raping her, which began in September 2024. Over a period of nine years, between 2011 and 2020, Pélicot was drugged by Dominique Pélicot who admitted to inviting dozens of men to allegedly rape her in the family home in Mazan, France, while he filmed them. The police identified raped 92 times committed by 83 men and tracked down 50, aged between 26 and 72. She was unaware of the abuse until it came to light in 2020 when her husband was arrested for taking upskirt photographs of women and police discovered thousands of images and videos. Pélicot has received widespread admiration for waiving her right to anonymity, which she said she did to publicise the case to protect other women.
