Hurricanes are powerful tropical storms that form over the Atlantic and eastern Pacific oceans. They are classified into categories based on wind speed, with Category 5 being the most intense, and typically develop in late summer and early autumn when ocean temperatures are highest. Some of the most destructive hurricanes in the 21st century include Hurricane Katrina (2005) and Hurricane Maria (2017).
