Kathleen Stock is a British philosopher and author known for her work on gender, sexuality and free speech. Formerly a professor at the University of Sussex, her gender-critical views — particularly on the importance of biological sex in law and policy — sparked significant controversy. In 2021, after a student-led campaign calling for her dismissal, she resigned from her position. In response a group of more than 200 academic philosophers from the UK signed an open letter supporting Stock’s right to “engage in open and scholarly debate without fear or harassment”.
