Kentucky is a landlocked state in the southeast of the US with a population of about 4.5 million. It is known as the ‘Bluegrass State’ after the species of grass introduced by European settlers which has supported its thoroughbred horse industry. It is known for the Kentucky Derby horse-racing event, Mammoth Cave National Park with the world’s longest known cave system, barbecue and Kentucky Fried Chicken, which is headquartered in Louisville, the state’s largest city.
