Liz Truss is a former prime minister. She studied philosophy, politics and economics at Merton College, Oxford, and joined the Conservative Party in 1996. Truss has been in politics for most of her working life, starting her ministerial career in 2012. She was promoted to foreign secretary in Boris Johnson’s cabinet reshuffle in September 2021, succeeding Dominic Raab. Truss was elected leader of the Conservative Party in September 2022, but held the position for only 44 days, resigning on October 20.
