In March 2021, Sarah Everard, 33, was kidnapped, raped and murdered by Wayne Couzens, a serving Metropolitan Police officer. Couzens was sentenced to a whole-life prison term. Everard’s murder has sparked widespread debate about police accountability, systemic issues within policing and the safety of women in public spaces.
