First played in 1860 at Prestwick Golf Club, Scotland, The Open is the oldest of golf's four major championships. It is typically held in July, rotating among a group of historic links courses such as St Andrews, Muirfield and Royal Troon, with the winner receiving the Claret Jug trophy. The reigning champion is the American Xander Schauffele.
