RogueViz
A downloadable demo for Windows
RogueViz is the non-Euclidean engine used by HyperRogue. Many visualizations and animations we have been showing on Twitter, YouTube, and other places have been created using RogueViz.
Some of the these visualizations are cooler if you have extra control of them. or if you have a VR set. For most people, downloading this will be the simplest way to try them out! Just select the "RogueViz demos" from the menu.
More info about RogueViz (this page needs redesign)
The source code of RogueViz is available in the HyperRogue github repo. The repo does not include some data files, so you might want to compile RogueViz from the repo, and copy the data files from here.
If something is missing, please add a comment! Note that some demos could not be included here because:

Are you going to release the RogueViz Collection here on itch.io?
The main idea for RogueViz collection was to make the games available to people who prefer to play games on Steam -- the games are available on itch.io as individual games. (While idealistically itch.io is better, I generally prefer people to buy my games on Steam than on Itch since I believe it makes them more visible, especially with a review.)
Although their versions in the RogueViz Collection are improved -- more specifically:
So I was not planning to make an itch.io version, but I guess I could make one.
I understand and thank you for the reply. Do whatever you think best, I'll wait a bit and if you don't release here on itch.io I'll buy it sooner or later on steam. Love your games and youtube videos, keep up the good work! :)
will this ever be ported to Mac?
RogueViz Collection on Steam should work on Mac natively. We have not yet added information about OSX support to the Steam Store because it is not tested sufficiently yet. On our Mac, the starting animation crashes (that can be circumvented by adding launch option `rv_startviz=0`), but that is probably because it is a very old Mac.
although i've gotten stuff to work, there are still some bad glitches, like how if you go through portal through the wrong side in the portals between geometries, it will rotate you around instantly and make you walk away. to enter, you have to go backwards. this bug didn't happen the first time, but it's now happening even if i restart the game
hey i got here from the youtube video about exploring non eudlicidian geometry . im slightly familiar with hyperrogue and can see that its sortof included here. i cant figure out how to get to anything like the type of map in the video though.
If you mean "Portals to non-Euclidean Geometries":
* "rogueviz demos" in the menu
* portal collection
* press Enter a few times until you get to "inter-geometric portals", or alternatively, press '9' and select it from the menu
* click "run this visualization" (note: may take some time to compile the shader)
Does this help?
thank you that is what i meant and im sure that will work ! appreciate it and love your engine
i found it too, but i can't move freely like you did in the video, i can only move by clicking, how can i fix that?
If you are in the version downloaded here (13.0a), and activate as explained above (not some other way, i.e., not by loading the portalscene3.lev file directly), you should be able to rotate the camera with WASD and move with IJKL.
Please port it to Linux
The source code of RogueViz should be possible to compile quite easily in Linux (we work mostly in Linux ourselves).
i have potato pc and it just crashed :(
When i tried to open it, my whole screen turned pitch black and i couldn't do anything. I was forced to shut my laptop down, and when i restarted i got the "windows couldn't be opened properly" (or something like that) error message. Restarting once more worked properly again. Tried couple more times and same thing occured. Do you know what could be the issue? This looks like a very cool software!
Unfortunately, I have not seen this reported by other people, so I am not sure whether I am able to help :( Some ideas:
- are your graphics drivers up to date?
- you could try running with commandline option `-O0' -- which disables OpenGL. But most visualizations will not work with OpenGL, and the others will be much slower, so this is more a method to gather more information than a solution.
- what graphics card and operating system are you using?
Thanks for trying!
I haven't tried this program.
You can try looking through your event viewer.
Press your windows key and start typing "Event Viewer" <- without the quotes. It should resolve after a few key presses. Depending on your system it may take a few seconds or a few minutes to populate. Check the column for the last hour and anything relating to Error or Warning. These might give you a clue as to what crashed in the system.
It may not ultimately help you resolve the issue but it is a direction in which you can investigate.
Very neat my bud! You really create neat engines for me to experiment with!
How do i make this work properly with my VR headset?
Any specific issues, and what VR headset are you using?
I run SteamVR, and then in RogueViz, enable VR in settings -> 3D settings -> VR settings.
beautiful! I just wish the models worked, and the recursive house too!
