Resale enabled offers overview

Resale enabled offers empower channel-led sales at scale through Microsoft Marketplace. Many software companies rely on channel partnerships to sell their solutions to customers. Using resale enabled offers, software companies can authorize their channel partners to sell their existing Marketplace offers on their behalf. After authorization, channel partners can independently create and sell private offers without direct involvement from the software company.

Resale enabled offers are sold via customer private offers and multiparty private offers. For customers that have an Azure consumption commitment, the entire purchase counts towards their commitment when they buy solutions that are eligible for Azure IP co-sell, which helps partners land bigger deals via Marketplace.

Benefits of resale enabled offers

Benefits for channel partners:

  • Grow your business by selling directly to Microsoft customers, while helping them fulfill their Azure consumption commitments with eligible purchases.
  • Create and manage private offers independently, without publishing and managing new product offers.
  • Simplify customer billing and collections via Marketplace.

Benefits for software companies:

  • Enter new global markets through trusted channel partnerships.
  • Delegate private offer management for improved operational efficiency.
  • Grow your business by bringing existing partnerships to Marketplace.

Important terms to know

  • Resale partner: A partner entity authorized by a software company to sell resale enabled offers through Marketplace. After receiving authorization, resale partners create and manage private offers on behalf of the software company.
  • Offer owner: The software development company that originally published the product offer to Marketplace. Offer owners authorize resale partners to sell their software.

How it works

The process of creating and selling resale enabled offers includes:

  • Agree: The offer owner and resale partner agree to terms outside Marketplace.
  • Authorize: The offer owner creates resale enabled offer authorizations in Partner Center. Each authorization is tied to a specific offer, one resale partner, and one or more customer markets.
  • Sell: After authorization, the resale partner creates private offers for their customers or other partners. Resale enabled offers support both customer private offers and multiparty private offers. If the customer has an Azure consumption commitment, eligible purchases count towards the commitment.
  • Billing and payout: Microsoft collects payment from the customer and pays the resale partner in accordance with our Marketplace payout policies. The resale partner then pays the offer owner outside Marketplace in accordance with the terms of their external agreement. Offer owners can track sales via resale enabled offers using the Insights workspace in Partner Center.
