Only thirty-something people have rated it so far, and this site uses a weighted algorithm. My guess is, a few habitual veteran anime watchers (like me) saw the first episode or two. If you click on the rating you see most people who saw only some of it voted in the 3-6 range (again, only around 30 people did it) and most of those who actually finished it rated it 5-8. So I'd say it looks okayish, just nobody voted a 9 or 10 for it.
Oh, I'll comment so people would get the idea what Megaton is about.
It's a very cheesy mecha show deliberately made by the rules that were popular in 80ies and 90ies. Hot blooded main character, over the top action, monster of the week format. Despite 3D CG not looking like anything special, it actually works very well due to competent directing and not mixing 3D with 2D. Megaton doesn't try to go outside of it's own preestablished borders, and also does what it's supposed to do at an okay level, so if you're interested in purposely dumb mecha shows you can check it out. The only bad thing about this show is character overload, since no one gets enough screentime to actually get developed. Well, second season is coming, so maybe characters will get proper attention there.
Still it's better than some other shows that aired during the same season. Tsuki to Laika to Nosferatu, I'm looking at you.

I'm currently at episode 10 but ditto.
At first I thought it's meant for the younger audience but I changed my mind after watching episode 10 (
Yeah, THAT scene.
). While being simple in its premise and pretty straight-forward, sometimes predictable, it is still enjoyable at times. It follows the classic formula: we have the alien aggressors (who look like us) constantly assaulting the last vestiges of humanity and of course there are big robots involved. Following the classic formula we also have protagonists from both camps of the conflict eventually coming into contact which each other.
One of the downfalls is that there's a lack of a fleshed-out backstory for most of the characters, apart from a few flashbacks here and there. It feels more like an introduction to a bigger story. The first few episodes were ok, then there were several slowish up till episode 10, which I liked the most. Still there are three more to go and there's already a second season in the works so maybe it will pick up more steam later on.
Voice acting is mostly ok, but I have gripes with Kirishima Jun's VA, which sounds like a middle-aged woman rather than a highschool girl. Also Yamato's VA felt out of place here and there.
The CGI is not bad, I would say that it is actually easy on the eyes and I liked the mecha designs.
duuuude i am actually loving this holy shit
it has soul, and feels very classic in terms of story progression, characters, and writing
it's like taking a peek at future mecha anime from the mind of an 80s mecha otaku
super cheesy but i'd juxtapose it to GAINAX/Trigger anime and realise that it's not all that bad
the CG is amazing and hella beats Gundam at their own game
the mecha design is gorgeous and they all look pretty cool imo
they kinda overdo the exposition and explanation for specific things but that's part of the cheesiness
the characters are pretty interesting and the music really fits each scene and sets the mood just right
i feel like this anime has WAAAY more to offer, just that certain parts of the execution and without the budget of triple A studios', its overall potential has been hindered
edit:
BROOOOO THIS ANIME IS LIT
i feel like this is a love letter to 70s and 80s hot-blooded super robot anime, cos i definitely felt the amount of love put into this show
highly underrated cos it never received an "official" release, and i can only hope this did well in japan (and i hope s2 does well too)
super cheesy, super epic, and i super love it
I presume he means the "adult having sex with a schoolboy" scene. Which is of course the work of devilry, even though the guy is clearly in love with the older woman and enjoys getting layed.

Yeah. I wasn't commenting on whether it's a work of the Devil or not, just that I didn't expect to see such a scene in this show (don't grab your pitchforks as it's not explicit anyways).

but the game it is based on - for first impressions what to expect
