About us

Victoria Police was established in 1853. It provides policing services to the Victorian community 24 hours a day, seven days a week, working to keep more than 6 million Victorians safe. Police officers and Protective Services Officers (PSOs) are supported in their roles by public service professionals who work as administrators, managers, and specialists in a range of functions such as legal services, accounting, psychology and forensic sciences. Our workforce is expanding with the recruitment of more than 3000 police, 100 PSOs and the introduction of the Supervising Police Custody Officer role. Victoria Police is an inclusive, equal-opportunity employer that values employees’ skills and experience. We offer flexible, challenging and rewarding careers that make a real difference to the community. Effective frontline response service delivery is provided through 54 Police Service Areas (PSAs), split across 21 divisions within four regions - North West Metro, Southern Metro, Eastern, and Western. These regional boundaries correspond with those of other Victorian government departments, enhancing cross-department service delivery, particularly in the area of emergency management. Updates

  • We recently teamed up with Frankston City Council and Metro Trains to run train safety sessions with our older Victorians. 🚆🧓 Officers accompanied participants from Frankston Railway Station to Melbourne CBD, providing reassurance and safety tips on catching public transport. We had a great time with many of the participants leaving feeling more confident to use public transport.

  • First Constable Sihag began his policing career in the New South Wales Police Force. After several years stationed in Blacktown, he made the (easy) decision to move south and join Victoria Police. Why the change? For Sihag, it came down to lifestyle, balance and community. Many of his close friends had already relocated to Melbourne, so he decided to make the move permanent. "There's so much more variety here - whether it's food, sport or places to explore. It just feels like home now." While changing jurisdictions came with new systems and processes to learn, Sihag says the transition has been positive. “Everyone has been welcoming and supportive. Even when I didn’t know something, people were always happy to help.” Now stationed in Werribee, he’s enjoying the busy pace of policing in Victoria and is already looking ahead to future opportunities, including State Highway Patrol. Fluent in Punjabi, Hindi and Urdu, Sihag brings more than just policing experience - he also brings valuable language skills and cultural understanding to his work. As for the move down south? He reckons this shade of blue suits him much better.

  • You’ve likely seen our Solo Unit riding through traffic and thought, “Yeah, that’s a pretty cool job.” And yeah, you’re right, it is. But there’s another side of the job you likely don’t see. Our Solo members are often the first on scene at some of Victoria’s worst road incidents. Our Solo members are often the ones who deal with the aftermath when things go wrong, and it’s a big reason why they’re so passionate about motorcycle safety. Each time they put on the uniform, they’re not just keeping the roads safe for everyone, they’re also showing what it means to ride with skill, discipline and responsibility. If you’re thinking about a career where the roads are your office, and every day you’re making a difference, this ‘pretty cool job’ could be for you. And if you’re out on two wheels this weekend, take it from the experts: ride safe, gear up, and always respect the road.

  • Leading Senior Constable Heriot and Acting Sergeant Sambamurthy recently visited Trinity College at the University of Melbourne to chat with international students on the importance of safety. The session focused on staying safe while using public transport, with a spotlight on STOPIT and the Emergency+ app. STOPIT is a non-urgent, text-based notification service for the discreet reporting of unwanted sexual or anti-social behaviours on public transport. Big thanks to Trinity College for hosting us and for the students' enthusiasm and great questions. 📍 Wurundjeri Country #RegionalPolicing #CommunityPolicing #STOPIT
