  • In a milestone for paediatric healthcare, the Sydney Children’s Hospitals Network hosted Australia’s first Endoscopic Orbital Base of Skull Service (BOSS) workshop. The workshop brought together global experts to explore cutting-edge, minimally invasive techniques that access the skull base through the eye and nose, reducing pain, scarring and recovery time. This project provides safer, faster care for children with complex conditions. The Base of Skull Service Workshop is a finalist in the Health Innovation category in the 2025 NSW Health Awards.   • Meet the team at Hunter New England Local Health District's Drug and Alcohol Clinical Service (DACS). In the alcohol and other drugs sector, you’ll meet passionate staff from many healthcare fields – nurses, Aboriginal health practitioners, psychologists, and more - who work together to support patients. Aboriginal health practitioner Tiarna shared that “working alongside people from other health disciplines has helped me better understand how different parts of the health system work and how they can support our mob. It’s given me the chance to look at situations from different perspectives and build on my knowledge of healthcare.” “Collaboration creates a holistic approach to healthcare that addresses physical, emotional, social, and cultural needs that ensures our services are culturally safe, respectful, and appropriate,” she added.   • The Grafton Base Hospital Day Stay Joint Replacement Program in Northern NSW Local Health District was developed to give eligible elective total knee replacement and total hip replacement patients the chance to receive their operations as a day only procedure, instead of the average 3-4 day stay. This day stay program has had 53 patients receive their operation using this model of care with 42% of those patients discharged on the same day The Grafton Base Hospital Day Stay Joint Replacement program is a finalist in the Transforming Patient Experience category for the 2025 NSW Health Awards.   • Budjery Manya: New Directions Aboriginal Mothers and Babies Program is transforming care for Aboriginal mothers and babies in Western Sydney Local Health District by delivering culturally safe, community–led health services. Since 2015, the program has provided culturally appropriate services including immunisation clinics, home visits, paediatric assessments, and specialist referrals. In 2023-24, the program expanded to include newborn clinics, speech pathology, and out-of-home care assessments — responding directly to community needs.   • Its Global Hand washing Day! Check out what the team at Hunter New England Local Health District have been doing to minimise unnecessary non-sterile gloves through a targeted hand hygiene education program. The Gloves Off! program improved staff knowledge, attitudes and behaviour. It also reduced glove use, which saved money, reduced waste and minimised carbon footprint.
