A poem dedicated to The United Church of Canada as the church celebrates its Centennial, written by Rev. Daniel Addai Fobi, an 2S and LGBTQIA+ advocate originally from Ghana. He shepherds the God’s Beloved group for LGBTQAI+ refugees at Kitchissippi United Church in Ottawa. They say a hundred years is a long time. But what is time… to a fire that never dies? To a voice that still echoes in the silence? To a people who still believe in the power of love with skin on? Let me tell you a story— not of brick and stained glass, but of Spirit. Of breath that moved over a cold, colonial land and whispered, “Do better.” “Go further.” “Love wider.” This… is The United Church of Canada. Born in the rubble of war, birthed by union, not division. By a hunger for unity in a fractured world. And we didn’t just build churches— we built bridges. Across denominations. Across generations. Across oceans of difference..... (Please click through to read the full poem, it's worth it!: https://lnkd.in/gA3pupnZ.) #UCCan #UCCan100 #DeepBoldDaring #APlaceattheTable

About us
The United Church of Canada is Canada's largest protestant denomination. Formed in 1925, The United Church of Canada was created by a union of Presbyterian, Methodist, Congregational, and the General Council of the Local Union Churches. We believe we strengthen one another to work, through God's grace, for a better world. To this end, we cooperate with other churches, faith traditions, and people of goodwill to eliminate poverty and protect those who are most vulnerable.

The United Church of Canada welcomes Canada's July 30, 2025 announcement that it will formally recognize the State of Palestine at the UN General Assembly in September. This is seen as a meaningful step toward a two-state solution rooted in international law and human dignity. But recognition alone is not enough. The church is calling for immediate action: a sustained ceasefire, unhindered humanitarian aid, the release of all captives, and a comprehensive two-way arms embargo on Israel. The statement questions whether recognition can truly respond to the suffering in Gaza and the West Bank and urges concrete steps beyond diplomatic words. Canada Post has issued a new stamp in its “Places of Pride” series commemorating the origin of the term “Two‑Spirit,” which was introduced at the third North American Native American Gay & Lesbian Gathering in Beausejour, Manitoba, in 1990. The gathering was hosted at what is now the Sandy‑Saulteaux Spiritual Centre. This historic moment marks a powerful reclaiming of Indigenous gender, spiritual, and relational identity rooted in ceremony and culture. The artwork depicts ceremonial gatherings under a night sky and reflects both ancient traditions and the act of naming that changed the course of Two‑Spirit recognition in Canada and beyond. As a United Church of Canada ministry training centre and ecumenical space where Indigenous and Christian spirituality intertwine, Sandy‑Saulteaux Spiritual Centre holds deep significance in both theological education and reconciliation journeys. We celebrate the Two‑Spirit community and all those who helped forge this identity. May this stamp inspire deeper understanding, healing, and affirmation across Indigenous and queer communities. The United Church of Canada, along with faith and advocacy partners including KAIROS, is expressing deep grief and frustration at Canada’s continued arms shipments to Israel when Canada knows those arms could be used in war crimes. An open letter has been sent to Prime Minister Carney, urging immediate and meaningful government action toward peace and justice. Key concerns include widespread evidence of violations of international law, ongoing Canadian-made arms exports, and a plea for immediate government action. In 2024, United Church members made space for healing—supporting the first-ever Northern Indigenous Ministers Retreat for clergy in Northern Manitoba and Ontario. These ministers are serving Northern communities facing a devastating crisis: rising mental health and addiction struggles, especially among youth. 🧡 In September 2025, we hope to offer another retreat with rest, counselling, and renewal—but we need your help. Your gift helps ministers travel—some from thousands of kilometers away—to receive the support they need to keep serving others. 🙏 Donate today: https://lnkd.in/gwc2SgdE [Image by Jean-Daniel Bourgault from Pixabay] #UCCan #IndigenousChurch #Healing #NIHM2025 #MissionandService
