Our new #infodemiology study on the interplay of public and social media is out in JMIR Publications. In this work, our PhD student Silvan Wehrli searches for evidence of information pathways and voids between X/Twitter, Telegram channels, and public news. We look back on the COVID-19 era with a special focus on the online vaccination discourse. When have specific topics have emerged online? How were related news shared and discussed on social media? We tried to answer these and other questions with the help of #NLP, text clustering, multitopic classification, and thematic analyses. Find the paper here: https://lnkd.in/dfwA_smu Currently, we expand our work on NLP in the #publichealth domain and search for experts to join our AI centre at Robert Koch Institute: https://lnkd.in/dktm-cxh

ℹ️ Where does information... go? And how does it flow? We tracked the COVID-19 #vaccination discourse from government actors to critical communities (such as Querdenken), using four years of media data — spanning social media platforms (Telegram, Twitter/X) and established public media outlets. While most studies focus on a single data source, we compared patterns across platforms and identified critical #InformationVoids. These information pathways and voids are essential to understand for improving crisis and risk #communication. Check out the details in our latest publication, by our bright PhD student Silvan Wehrli et al: 📄 https://lnkd.in/esDCViCy #InfodemicManager #SocialListening #infodemic #communication #rcce #InfodemicPreparedness Anna-Maria H. Our Digital Navigator, Carla Gorban, was superb as a panellist on the recent Society of Digital Psychiatry’s live Symposium webinar in partnership with JMIR Publications Mental Health. Carla presented her original research as a Digital Navigator with lived experience across three youth mental health services in Sydney. As Carla says, “It’s hard for people with lived experience to get their foot in the door to work in mental health services, but the Digital Navigator role empowers this previously disenfranchised group with a new career option in mental health.” Our leading work in Digital Navigation is another example of how we are redefining what including lived experience means. The response from ZB MED - Informationszentrum Lebenswissenschaften librarians to our Flat-Fee Unlimited OA Publishing Partnership has been great! Like many other countries, German research librarians are working to help their researchers with open access mandates from funding agencies while managing limited budgets. The Institutional Publishing Fee from JMIR Publications is delivering Gold Open Access publishing at a sustainable cost for our partners. I wrote a blog post about how all institutions could see those same benefits, including the slide deck from the webinar with KGL Accucoms Europe a few weeks ago. https://lnkd.in/gaXX8TdK #openaccess #goldopenaccess #germany #digitalhealth #openscience

🏥 New Publication in JMIR Publications! I’m excited to share our recently published paper: “Acceptability of the RecoverEsupport Digital Health Intervention Among Patients Undergoing Breast Cancer Surgery: Qualitative Study.” Our qualitative study explored how women experienced RecoverEsupport: A digital health intervention designed to support adherence to Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) guidelines following breast cancer surgery. Findings show RecoverEsupport was highly acceptable and perceived as a valuable adjunct to standard care. It filled key gaps in perioperative care, improved self-efficacy, and complemented clinical guidance. These insights highlight how thoughtfully designed digital tools can enhance patient recovery and optimise perioperative care within busy health systems. 📖 Read the full paper here : https://lnkd.in/geNXEkAK Thank you to my co-authors and participants for their invaluable contributions. #DigitalHealth #CancerRecovery #Oncology #BreastCancer #JMIR #PatientCentredCare #ImplementationScience #PatientSupport #ERAS

Huge congratulations! We're incredibly proud to see you celebrate this well-deserved achievement. Your commitment and hard work are inspiring. Keep up the fantastic work!
I'm happy to share that I received the JMIR Publications Early Career Researcher Award 2025 for my research on naturalistic decision support and digital self-care, where I examine how AI and digital health tools can better fit real-world decision making and help users make sense of information (Division of Ergonomics @ TU Berlin, Markus Feufel).
