A good suggestion was made at the Pamplona meeting to introduce file type specific extension (to replace the current confusing system of giving all file types a .xml extension).

After a bit of thought I would like to propose the following extensions:

-AYS
-DST
-PFO
-BMK

Note: the basic guideline I have used in deciding on the extension names is to keep the first letter and last letter and then to pick a middle letter which gives the closest phonetic match to the full name (using my subjective judgement). I think the above are pretty recognizable for the file types they represent.

Note: we will need to ensure that the software can still open .xml files, but the new default should be the above.
