Sweet Dreams

Purpose

  • This program provides a simple webapp to assemble a custom soundset of sounds for sleep, relaxation, or worldbuilding.
  • It is inspired by Atmosphere, a mobile app that does much the same thing except this app regularly crashes after 3-5 hours of use.
  • By being a webpage instead of an app, this program also requires zero installation for the end user; they simply visit a website and are good to go.
  • The modern version of this tool began development on or about 2025-02-22, created by Brendan Rood.
  • This app (and repo) is a successor to work on a mobile app of the same name for an assignment at the University of Minnesota Duluth. The modern version of this program is entirely different, with the only the audio files being brought with.

Installation / Usage

  • Can be run in any httpx environment with JavaScript execution.
  • A version of the app is already located at https://dream.snailien.net

How Audio is Sourced

  1. Procurement
    1. The largest reasonable purchase/donation to the source work is made.
    2. If the audio can be directly extracted from an existing digital medium, the source is decompiled to obtain that maximum quality resource.
    3. If extraction is not possible, an official soundtrack is purchased and used.
    4. If neither is available, yt-dlp is used with the parameters -f bestaudio.
  2. Processing
    1. Audio is edited at maximum quality.
    2. The apparent loudness of the audio is normalized via this Audacity macro.
