While looking at this project for an open source class, one topic was looking for ways that people could help contribute.

Something that could be beneficial would be creating some guidelines on how to contribute to this project. Whether it be on bug fixes or new features, and maybe using some flags in the issues to be searchable for people to take ownership on.
