`(` loses its superpowers when same file is open in two panes #684

I open file.rb then open a vertical split pane. When I select "chris" in the original pane and type (, I get "(chris)". When I do the same thing in the new pane and I get "(".

This only happens when the two panes' cursors are synced so it might be related to #683.
