Supporting Edition-Level Annotations on Base-Text Derived Editions #35

Hello @proycon
First of all, since our last interaction, I’m happy to share that we’ve made really good progress — thanks to STAM and your valuable guidance.

We’ve successfully created segmentation annotations on texts, followed by alignment annotations to their corresponding translations and commentaries. A lot of this data is now published on the pecha.org website — including the Heart Sutra, Diamond Cutter Sutra, and more.

Now, moving forward, we’re beginning the process of creating a critical edition of all Tibetan Buddhist texts. For each text, there are multiple editions — essentially the same text, but with different spelling variations. In our architecture, we plan to have a single base text, and for each edition, we’ll create a corresponding Spelling Variant Annotation. These annotations will perform insertion and deletion operations on the base text to transform it into a specific edition.

For example, the Heart Sutra will have one base text, and each distinct edition will have its own spelling-variant-annotation file that, when applied, transforms the base into that particular edition.

Now, here’s my question:
Let’s say I want to add a pagination annotation to one of the transformed texts (i.e. an edition generated by applying a spelling variant).
How would I approach this in STAM? What are the possible ways to handle this scenario?

For reference, I’ve attached a .zip file containing two spelling variant annotation files in the layers folder:
