Description

Now that we generally poll for changes in referenced configmaps and secrets, we don't need to track missing ones. If it's not optional, the statefulset will fail regardless. If it's optional, then it should be seen as a change, not something that we need to immediately react to - just like the changes we poll for.

This further prevents avoidable updates to the StatefulSet, which relates to #31646
