At our dev meeting (9/6/13) the point was made that in the case of the analytic version there was no prior information on the direction of the alternative, unlike the case for the permutation based tests.

So the default for the analytical tests should be that the p-values are two-tailed. An option could be passed in to indicate which tail was desired if the user wanted a directional test.
