  1. made auto-mode-alist regex independent of the default ".git" dir 

    $GIT_DIR is by default ".git", but is not required to be ".git". E.g. when having sub modules, for each sub module, it's by default ".git/modules/myproject".

git-config(1) lists $GIT_DIR/config, but only having "/config\\'" as auto-mode-alist regex would result in too many false positives. The compromise is to have two regexes:
- "/.git/config\\'" which matches for the default case where $GIT_DIR is ".git"
- "/modules/.*/config\\'" which matches a Git submodule within any $GIT_DIR
