This looks very interesting - but not clear on what the potential use-cases are.

For example, one could just create UUID / GUID locally in any application, without even the need of a server or distributed cluster.

Wondering what I am missing. Why would one want to get IDs from a cluster of machines? Any pointers or info would be greatly appreciated.
