Consent Management Platforms (CMP)

Important

Starting October 31, 2025, Clarity begins enforcing consent signal requirements for page visits originating from the European Economic Area (EEA), United Kingdom (UK), and Switzerland (CH). A valid consent signal is required to ensure full functionality of Clarity features for users in these regions.

What is a CMP?

A Consent Management Platform (CMP) is a tool that allows websites to request, store, and manage user consent in accordance with data privacy regulations.

Core capabilities of a CMP

Consent Collection: CMPs enable websites to display banners, pop-ups, or similar prompts to inform users about data practices and obtain their consent.

Preference Management: CMPs record and log user consent preferences to support consent-driven data collection or processing and enhance the transparency.

Regulatory Compliance: CMPs help organizations meet legal requirements under regulations such as GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, and the ePrivacy Directive.

User Control: CMPs allow users to easily update or withdraw their consent at any time.

When to use a CMP?

Implement a CMP if your website or app:

  • Sets cookies or collects personal data (e.g., IP addresses, session data, or user behavior).
  • Receives traffic from users in regions with data privacy laws, such as the GDPR or CCPA/CPRA.
  • Requires greater transparency and user control around data practices.

CMPs supported by Clarity

Important

Before using any CMP with Clarity, you must enable Clarity Consent Mode and configure the CMP to send a valid consent signal to Clarity.

Clarity integrates with multiple leading CMPs to receive and respect user consent signals. Integration ensures Clarity only activates tracking when consent is granted. Once configured correctly, Clarity automatically detects and respects the consent signal.
